The Stars Explained
The STAR Rating Scheme is Australia's accommodation classification scheme. It is owned and managed by AAA Tourism on behalf of Australia's Auto Clubs.
For properties to be STAR Rated at all they must meet minimum requirements. Some properties offer accommodation of more than one standard. The overall STAR Rating is based on 50 per cent or the majority of the accommodation. Remaining accommodation will appear in the relevant listing with a higher or lower STAR Rating.
In some instances a property rating may be reviewed. A Rating Under Review may be due to an inability for the property to be assessed during the normal assessment cycle or a property has temporarily withdrawn because it cannot meet minimum requirements. Alternatively it may be undergoing refurbishment.
Sometimes accommodation cannot be assessed in time to meet the print deadline for a guide. In this case, the words "Yet to be rated" will appear as part of the listing text.
Rating Definitions
Definitions of STAR Ratings vary depending on the accommodation type. STAR Rating definitions are outlined below.
Hotel, Motel, Apartment Hotel and Resorts
